Job Summary

Supervises and coordinates activities of train crews to ensure safe and efficient rail operations in compliance with company rules, policies, labor agreements and governmental regulations.


Primary Activities and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work practices by promoting safety awareness and conducting safety meetings.
  • Monitor employees for compliance with company rules, policies, procedures, union agreements and governmental regulations.
  • Implement policy and execution of the operating plan.
  • Supervise TY&E employees and plan daily train and switching operations.
  • Supervise Dispatcher, Yardmaster, and Clerical Staff.
  • Conduct operation and efficiency tests.
  • Monitor and control costs to meet goals.
  • Investigate accidents and injuries, determine root cause and resolve or escalate through company's disciplinary process.
  • Ensure service requirements are met by handling complaints, and taking steps to arrange satisfactory service.
  • Report emergency situations and take appropriate actions.
  • Frequently inspect yards, equipment, property, facilities and other resources.
  • Must be able to immediately respond to safety concerns 24/7.



  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Five years of railroad transportation experience required, supervisory experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, company rules and governmental regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Motivated, self-directed individual with organizational skills and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in a fast paced 24/7 operational environment.
  • Computer Skills Microsoft Office, ability to learn TRRA software.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
